Runaway as fast as you can

Sometime I don't feel like blogging. Sometimes I do. For me, this blog is a personal adventure, somewhere I write things that are not too embarrasing (those are better left for my journals) so that I can check back on it time to time and see how much I've grown. Every now and then, I take time to read some old posts and get to re live that life which is pretty exciting in my books.

This week has been not too shabby. Mostly, I had classes and walked a lot to and from FMC. I like walking. In fact, I'd choose it over petrol burning devices that run any day  unless the distance is too long or its raining and I don't want to get wet or if my feet hurts (which happens a LOT since I'm always wearing different shoes). It's the too much staring that I have a hard time with and most Maldivians seem to be infected with that disease. I try not to look at people when I walk which has its own advantages and disadvantages (people seem to think I ignore them on the road and I've often been accused of being "foni") but every now and then I will get insecure when I walk no matter how much positive energy I carry around. I could be looking like the most basic bitch and blending in like a chameleon, but people will stare like it's some sort of a contest or like I'm some weird monster from a video game that they're trying to kill with laser vision. Honestly. If you're from Maldives you know what I'm talking about. I mean it's OK, and probably very normal to look at people, even a bit longer if they have something cute on, or have nice booty but staring is just awful.
Classes have been so much fun because I actually pay attention and because I study very cool subjects it becomes so much more interesting  The girls and I have been going shopping and taking pictures at the most random-est places. I mean, we were at a shop checking out some fabric and then suddenly  it was click click click. I also saw a random men's tee with a pic of Justin Bieber *OH THE HORROR* on it so I took it and hid it in the shop under a gigantic pile of random stuff that looked like garbage. Yes humanity, you're welcome.
Rings and Things
Image from Rings and Things Facebook
My friend Shums has this awesome business called Rings & Things (she is super woman I think cos she is so creative and does so many things) and she makes the cutest rings like these. I bought some from her called Now Panic and Freak Out, and Keep Calm and Have Tea. It was so hard to choose cos all of them are so FREAKING CUTE!
It is definitely time to freak out because my thesis is due next month and it's a mess. My Literature review is incomplete, the theories are not grounded, I still need to find 300 more photos for the plan, most of the website analysis hardly makes sense, the model equation has too many variables and is too complex that it makes no sense and on top of that I don't know all of the things that I need to include in the report. But it's gonna be fine cos I read a really good book yesterday and now I'm all about being calm and going over the mistakes.

They said this day wouldn't come

I sent that exact thing to my friend the other day, and he replied "upon receiving your text, I was very confused". That, people is what happens when you text random stuff to teaching students. haha.

Anyhow, I has a very lazy uneventful week. It started very productively and then on Tuesday, I decided not to go to work, cos I was too lazy and not feeling good and since then I've been having mild headaches. It doesn't help that life is getting a bit depressing, but I keep telling myself that things will get better and fill my mind with inspirational quotes and positivism and it has worked.
Because my laptop is currently not working, I might not be able to update more often, but I'll keep trying.
A little fish once told me to "just keep swimming". I am swimming through life. It feels good.

PS, to you: I am fine. Seriously. :D

Monday Playlist

It's been a hectic week, and music has been my inspiration to do some work, like laundry and folding. I love ironing, and even folding to some extent. The washing part is not my cup of tea. I am still to figure out a way to make this work. Maybe I can spray the clothes and iron the bajoojies out of them and fold them and act like nothing happened. Hmm. So, this week I'm listening to;

One More Night by Maroon 5
I have been meaning to put this song for the last three weeks but forgot every single time. I also forget this song's name and have been calling it One Night, and even One Time (oh the horror). But seriously, I love this song. The beat is awesome, the lyrics are fun, and the video is the best. I mean, how can you not love a woman who leaves with everything but the guy's goldfish. That has to be an understanding woman. :P

5-1-5-0 by Dierks Bentley
It is such a fun song with crazy lyrics and makes you want to dance and sway and run around like a crazy eyed monster. Maybe not the latter, but beleive me this is good. I have never heard any other song by this guy, but I have made a mental note to check out his music. :D

Both of Us by Taylor Swift ft Bob
I love Tay like the next Swifty and I'm generally positive towards Bobby Ray songs but this one stuck out as odd. Ok, most rap songs sounds odd to me. They keep talking about the most randomest stuff and generally don't make any sense to me. I love the Tay's part though and yes, I do want to be strong enough to hold everything and all, so in some way she made just that two lines make the song relatable. All I can say is, that is what Bobby Ray wrote for us. Yes, that line is really from the lyrics. I'm at a loss for words now.

Postcard from Paris by  The Band Perry
Ever since If I Die young, this band has been in my radar (also due to the fact that it is named Perry, which is the name of Phineas and Ferb's pet platypus/secret agent.) and this song is almost as amazing as the first. I mean "Like a postcard from Paris when I've seen the real thing." is so true. I wouldn't want a postcard when I can go and see it my myself. I feel like this song is very me someway. Oh well.
Burn it Down by Linkin Park
I guess my taste in music is getting a bit versatile. I like this song. I don't really know why.

Chasing The Sun by The Wanted
THIS SONG IS THE BOMB. I've been singing it in my head while I walk and it is amazing. When people say random stuff, I want to shout "They said this day wouldn't come, we refused to run, we've only just begun, you'll find us chasing the sun" back at them. I love evrything about this song. The video was amzing as well. It is now in the second place in my motivational songs list. The first is ofcourse The Climb by Miles.

Saiyoni by Ai Azmat
Great song, amazing lyrics, lovely music. The usual kinda hinsi song that I love and could talk about for ages.

So far, I am having an awesome week. I found a water bottle shaped like a rectangle, lots of Orbits and a really well dressed lady. Everything makes sense now.

Proud Sister Moment

You know how when you go to see some kid's (probably your cousin or girlfriend's friends's little sister) concert and you find yourself looking at that one kid who is crying, or that one kid who is stuck like a robot. But somehow you always end up looking at that one kid in the middle who actually dances really well and you're surprised how someone that age dances that well while her classmates are either stuck, or doing random robot sequences.
You don't? Oh well. I do. I have been dragged to, (and sometimes on my own will) to several concerts and I tend to notice the kids that dance well (ofcourse all kids dance well, but you know what I mean) and you always hope that your cousin/niece/girlfriend's friends's little sister turns out to be that one, but it hardly happens. Unless IT ACTUALLY HAPPENS. That is exactly what happened to me.
Most of you already know that I have a three year old sister named Mickie (pronounced like Micky as in Micky Mouse) who is an absolute darling. She had her first pre-school concert last weekend and on Friday, I went with the twins, Em, China, Saa and Shaf to watch her dance. I actually thought she was going to get stuck because normally she won't do things when people are there, but boy was I surprised. Just when the song started, she started dancing like there was no tomorrow. She WAS that girl in the middle who dances really well. She changed her moves according to music, and not according to the teachers on either sides, which sort of made it look like she was ahead of the people because she infact was. haha.I couldn't get enough of it, so I went yesterday as well, with Nonns and videod her dance (I also learned that I don't know how t use an iPad :( OH MY GOD!) and all throughout the weekend I have had this really happy feeling where you are just happy because you are so proud. I think I now know how my parents feel when I get good grades, and when I am being the perfect daughter :P
Honestly, I have never been prouder of her. I have high hopes for this girl.

Monday Playlist

I can't still believe it's Monday. I slept and woke up really late so couldn't go to work today. This is the second time it has happened in the last four months. I don't know if I should be proud or guilty. I am very very excited these days. Yesterday, I got myself a place in the marketing workshop (which I have been trying to do since last week. YAY!), and I got paid for some work I did ages ago, and I found refill paper for my personal organizer which is the most exciting thing because all these days I have been cutting paper to fit it and punching them which is hard work. Anyhow, moving over to this week's playlist; I'm listening to

Everybody Talks by Neon Trees
To tell the truth, I only like this song because of the funny video and after that I've been playing it and it's not boring. Besides the lyrics are so funny. I love when lyrics tell a story rather than just some random words and an ooh in the middle.

Blow Me (One Last Kiss) by Pink
I consider myself a generally Pink loving person. I like her attitude and style as well. This song is so fun. Even the video is amazing. Also I love any song that had the words "full of shit" :P Payphone, anyone?

Secret by The Pierces
Ever since I saw the first episode of Pretty Little Liars, this has been on my playlist everyday. It's such a beautiful song. Right now, It's also my ringtone which is a big honor for any song. :P Because I  change my ringtone very rarely so getting promoted there is a big deal. Anyhow, I think this song is all sorts of amazing, mind blowing, bindaas, whatever.

What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction
Yes. The inevitable has happened. I actually liked a 1D song. I'm still not a fan of the whole boyband or Harry Styles. I like Niall though. He has great hair and with that comes great responsibility. I did watch a few of their songs just to be sure that I wasn't judging a band by one song. Did not like any other song, so now I am sure that I'm not a fangirl. And for anything you might have to say, my reply is "That's what makes you beautiful". It works the best when you say Photoshop. :P

Change by Taylor Swift
This is sort of my personal anthem whenever I am faced with people who abuse power bureaucracy and mean girls. It is such an uplifting, motivational song and it's by Tay. :D

Oppa Gangnam Style by PSY
I am a Kpop fan ever since I started watching Korean series last year and watched the first Girls Generation video. Yes thing song is the new Kolaveri Di, but it's so so much fun that that. The dance moves, the ooh sexy ladyy and the random shot where a guy is dancing in the elevator makes this so much better than any american pop song.

Halkat Jawani from Heroine
Kareena! I love her. She's my favorite celebrity in the entire world and that is saying something. I love item songs. Kareena being in this makes it all the more better.

Loabivan by Ravee and Rizoo
It's a bit shameful, but I don't generally listen to Dhivehi songs, especially not modern Dhivehi songs. There are always few exceptions and this is the exception. Beautiful song, beautiful people and WHOA that is a pretty shoe!
Have an awesome day people. :)

Weekend Reads

It has been a good week for me. Quite productive, and unproductive as well. While I'm watching Are You There Chelsea and making rounds in Male' taking random photos for my project, you can do some things like;
Also look at some pretty pictures over at Pinterest.
I need this. Seriously. People just don't understand that when someone is reading they don't want to be bothered. Especially not if all you've got to say is something bad about someone.
Now THIS is epic. Especially when stuck to a school/college/shop window/door. :)
I shall remember this everyday. So shall you. :D
Yes, most pictures this week are Potter related. If you haven't figured out that I'm a Potterhead by now, then you should go Avada Kedavra yourself. :P Have an awesome weekend everyone. Don't do anything I won't do. :P

I'm not gonna write you a love song

love eh. As Jason Mraz's new album title says love is a four letter word. We do overuse it a lot I believe. Honestly I love love even though I don't truly know what it is. Maybe the mystery is what makes it so enticing.
I sort of love all kinds of love. The kind where I love Allah and that is the most important relationship in my life, the one between the creator and me. The kind where I love my parents so much and they mean the world to me. The kind where I love my friends and I'm just so glad they came into my universe. The kind where I love my country and am proud to be here. The kind where I love music, shoes, books and good things in life.
I have never really been in love. I have only read about it in so many great, sometimes tragic, and sometimes not so great love stories. I have only heard songs about love and heartbreak. I have only seen gazillions of Hindi movies about love. I have only heard people being in love. It gets annoying sometimes, but I know it'll happen.
I guess I'm not really the best person to talk about love. But I want to feel that. I want to feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like how when I see a pretty pair of shoes, but I want more than that materialistic urge. Maybe my friend Isaac was right when he said that I live in a fairytale.
All I know is that those people who know this feeling, I hope it brings happiness to your life and not pain.

Monday Playlist

It's Monday again and whoa this week is going fast. I haven't really listened to too much music. LOL who am I kidding! I spent the entire Saturday watching music videos of the songs in Billboard 100. This week, I am listening to;

Payphone by Maroon 5
I LOVE this song. The video is a bit weird, but the song is just awesome. I also love payphones, phone booths and phones in general so I am very biased. :P My favorite part is the part where the fairy tales become shit. Because sometimes in reality you do feel that way. However, I will never doubt Cinderella's shoes, or Beast's library. This song is also my go to song for when I get random annoying songs stuck in my head. I'd rather have this stuck in my head all day long than any other. *cough*babybybieber*cough*

Rhythm of Love by Plain White Tees
This was the first song I ever heard of PWT's and loved it, since then the band has become my favorite. This song makes me feel all happy and warm and fuzzy inside so whenever I need to feel like that I listen to this and it has never failed me.

Love Song by Sara Bareilles
Ever since I heard her King of Anything, I have been listening to more of her songs and this one clicked as a personal favorite. There are just some people in my life that I won't write a love song to, not that I'm any good at it either.

Cooler than me by Mike Posner
I don't even know how I came across this, but I am glad I did. I sometimes feel like the girl in the song, with me never remembering most people's names. But I do say Hey when I see people. In fact, I saw it too often some people (not naming names) even call me like ShaHEYYYY! Not cool! I'm OK with ShaHAHAHAHAHA though.

Price Tag by Jessie J ft. B.o.B
This song has become my personal anthem now, sort of. I agree to every single thing in it, it's not even funny.  Yes what happened to those days when music made us all unite? I also love the music video even with the creepy teddy bear and the money tree. We are paying with love tonight, cos it's not about the money. Unless it is. ;)

Badi Mushkil Hai by Abhijeet
Another of those pretty old Hindi songs that just makes me feel really happy for no reason. I will never get tired of love in Hindi movies and songs.

Jhumka Gira by Asha Bhostle
I don't even know what this son g is about. Self note: Find out what the lyrics mean. I love it, I do. It seems to me like the kind of old item song, but one with a very deep meaning and lots of emotion. I may be wrong though. It could just be about a bazaar.

Health Network Meeting

Today, along with eight other volunteers, I was representing Democracy House at the health network meeting conducted by CCHDC which works under Ministry of Health. It was a very informative session where different organization came forward and shared what they were doing in relation to adolescent health, which is a very important health aspect for Maldives as well.
Some things we learned today were shocking, mostly about people's perceptions on sex education and drugs as well as HIV and malnutrition. There are people doing things about these but I think we are unaware.
For instance there is a unit in IGMH that has an adolescent center where adolescents can get free medical check-ups and other services. That is just one.
I was rather ashamed at myself for not knowing enough about health issues that concern my age group, me included. It was a wake up call to reality. I really do need to try at being healthy. After all this is youth and sometimes we take health for granted.
The good thing was I learned a lot, and met some great people who are so passionate about health (sometimes I'm baffled by how someone finds health so interesting, but yeah different people have different interests). The bad thing was I had to skip on work today as well. By the time I get back to work tomorrow, I won't be surprised if no one remembers me. Also at every meeting there is always that one person who tries to blame someone for something, or assume he/she is the chair/marker/judge. We Maldivians have this sad mentality.
PS I have an exam tomorrow morning. Wish me luck. :D
